Visit to Aggieland

Last Friday, Hubby and I took Bubbie up to College Station to walk the campus at Texas A&M.  It was a full day of walking, asking lots of questions, and enjoying just being on campus.  A&M is Bubbie's first choice to transfer to and he's going to study electrical engineering.  We just need to have ACC send his transcripts over on June 1 and we should know shortly thereafter. 

College Station is a good 2 hours away - far, but not too far.  And he won't have to travel I35 like The Girl did, thank goodness.  (that always scared me half to death!)

 

 The campus is fairly huge but we saw as much of it as we could on foot before lunch.

 The sidewalks were pretty empty until around lunchtime and we covered a lot of ground.

 And I have to say that all of the people we met and asked questions of were very friendly and patient.  I should have taken a pic or two of the cadets moving through campus, they were everywhere and quite distinquished looking!

 The engineering complex is brand new and super modern in design.  

Very impressive from the inside as well,

with lots of natural light and study rooms, and just generally easy places for students to hang out.  In fact, we noticed students hanging out in just about every nook and cranny of this building.

This particular scene is similar to the ACC Highland campus with seating all along a wide staircase.

I didn't get pics of all of the art, but there was a lot of it in this building and this 3 dimensional wall of tiles with a wave scene did catch my eye.  Its called Infinitesemals and is by a former engineering student. 

This building is where Bubbie would be most of the day and they have a very cool rooftop patio.

There are quite a few statues scattered around campus.  I only had a second to pause or my walking companions would leave me far behind!

Tons of bikes.  All over campus there were these huge bike racks.  I can see Bubbie biking a lot - he has become very interested lately in working out and later in the day he asked the tour guides about storing his bike.

Lunch was at a popular student hangout, the Memorial Student Center.

It was much more crowded in there than it looked - we were starving!  We sat for about an hour, then walked around the inside of it a bit more to kill time before our formal tour.

The lounge in the MSC has been left unchanged since the 50's.

This liberty bell is hanging in the university's oldest building.  There are better pics of it here - it was close to the end of tour when I took this photo and I was running out of gas...

We had a late tour time, but there was so much else we wanted to see.  If Bubbie's transfer gets accepted, we will for sure visit again.  We will need to arrange housing and such and we didn't get a chance to look at dorms or student apartments.  Now all we do is wait for the end of the semester and the grades transfer!
