Thankful today

Its been a crazy summer - every other week it seems like there is a new thing to deal with.  I could get myself worked up over the hard stuff, or I could reframe it.  It seems right to acknowledge the struggles, but maybe just as right to express the gratitude, and may be even more so.  Gratitude is hardest to find when you need it the most, but the practice strengthens us and can be life changing, shifting our perspective from scarcity to abundance.  Every day I want to give my brain some proof that life is good.

So this week:
*I am thankful that I have the money to buy a new tire after I ran over a carpet razor!  The new tire is on its way to the store as I type this, and by tomorrow this will be remembered as a minor inconvenience.  I will also buy replacement certificates for all four tires to make this easier in the future.  Props to the roadside assist provided from Traveler's Insurance as well!
*I am thankful for my friend, Deb.  She loves and accepts me without judgement and has been a good listener these last few weeks.  In turn, I am being a better listener for her.  Meeting up with her for coffee or a beer is like entering a time warp - 3 hours go by in a blink.  Having this strong social connection is a blessing to me.
*I am thankful for the mail order prescription service my employer provides.  They are friendly and helpful on the phone, its cheaper than a retail pharmacy,  and I get my refills delivered to my house fast.  There's a lot to be said for how we get our prescription meds refilled now!
*I am thankful that the washer repair was relatively fast and easy, and that I had the funds to cover that expense.  I got the new dryer vent installed and the whole nook painted and we're back in business!
*My shoulder did not hurt with all of the hard work in the laundry nook, so I am counting shoulder improvement as a Big Win.  PT is going well and I am experiencing very little, if any, pain.  I am walking, trying to stay hydrated, eating at home, and staying connected with other people.
There is a lot for me to feel thankful for right now!

Yes, we all have so much to be thankful for. I need a reminder to do that from time to time 💗

Framing is an important skill. I struggle with the thankful parts of the challenges but this post is a good reminder.

Oh so true that gratitude can be hardest to find when we need it the most. It sounds like you do have many wonderful things (and people!) to be thankful for.

You are truly blessed Gina. Especially as you embrace life from the perspective of gratitude rather than despair. Doesn't it feel great?

I sometimes wish that I still got gold stars for doing various adult things. Even something as simple as "I filled my gas tank" deserves some slight celebration! I think you should be showered in gold stars!!

I agree, when we're struggling it's not easy to hold on to gratitude, but it really is the time we need it most. Love your list, you have a wonderful mindset.

A carpet razor! What a pain! You had to be so upset by that. I know I would have. That’s the way to deal with things, though, spin it in a positive direction.

I really wasn't! I amazed myself and didn't panic at all. The spare was on in less than an hour and the guys at Discount Tire were very nice. I'm giving myself a pat on the back for handling this one well. (:

Shoulder improvement for the win!! Hooray...and for getting all the repairs done. I know what you mean about time warps when catching up with a good friend. I did that twice this week (entered the warp) and it was delightful!:)

I was just on another blog that posted a quote about gratitude. I can't remember it now but I found another one for you - "When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around." Yay on getting all your repairs done.
