Homebody me

One thing I re-learned about myself recently:
I am a homebody at heart.
I traveled lightly!

Much as I loved putting my feet in the sand and feeling the warm summer sun and cool breezes off the Gulf, home is my Happy Place.  Two days away from home is always the outside limit for me, and I have always been this way.  As a child, we spent summers visiting family while my mother worked and even if we were having a blast I had some serious homesickness.  I remember feeling that way when we had Highlands, too.  On Sunday afternoons I was READY to get back home to my own home and bed, even though Mark was grumpy about it.  When I spent two nights at the hospital for the ice storm in January, I was so ready to get home that I was willing to face my fears driving through icy Austin to get there, crying as soon as I hit the front door.
Its just how I am wired.
I had a good time at the coast and I can cross it off my summer bucket list, but in future I will look for day trips, closer to home.  I still want to be independent, still feel capable, still want to have fun.
But I am definitely a homebody!

You have made your home a lovely place to be and day, or partial day, trips have great value. A change without the stress of preparing to be gone. I look forward to hearing about what ones you take the rest of the summer.

It's a good feeling to know your comfirt place and feel you're allowed to embrace it. I live travelling but am also fond of the feeling of returning home.

Nothing wrong about that if it makes you feel good. I'm sure you can find some great spots for day trips.

I can certainly identify. When we had our RV I found being away from home so very difficult. We saw things like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone in less time than anyone else I'm sure. No matter how gorgeous the scenery and how perfect the weather I just couldn't wait to get HOME. Have a great week.

When I am home I am a homebody and prefer quiet weekends at home but I also love a good trip.

I have traveled a lot, and lived in a variety of places, but it’s true when they say there is no place like home. Now that I am on my own and can do what I want, there is no place I would rather be. Like you, home is my happy place, and I am delighted all of the time.

I wrote a whole post about this recently, because, yup, I'm a homebody, too...and I think it's just how I've always been wired. I remember the same homesickness as a kid, whenever we traveled. As an adult, two days away is my preferred vacation, as well. This summer we've decided to do day trips instead and I'm thrilled!!

Isn't it wonderful to not only have a lovely home...but to feel so happy and at peace there. My heart hurts for those who do not. Home makes me happy too!
